Bison are the largest mammal in North America. Elk Island National Park is a national park close to my home in Alberta, Canada, that plays an important part in the conservation of the Plains bison. The park is administered by the Parks Canada Agency. Since 2007, Parks Canada has actively managed a herd of about 400 pure-bred and disease free plains bison and 300 wood bison in Elk Island.
