Hi! I’m Sarah: former art teacher, lifelong creative, and professional artist. Over the years, I’ve had many requests for watercolor classes, but life conspired and I never got it done.
Well now I’m ready! I tried to think about everything I wished I knew starting out, and I’ve added all that into the plan. These classes will take you from absolute beginner to confident watercolorist, and we’ll do it all in person, in very small groups (max of 6/class), from the cosy comfort of my firelit home in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.

Join me for an afternoon of painting one of the garden’s most captivating blooms—the blue hydrangea. Known for its lush clusters of delicate petals and beautiful variations of cool blues, the hydrangea offers endless opportunities to explore light, colour, and detail in watercolour.
Designed for intermediate painters, this workshop will focus on creating realistic, three-dimensional petals through careful observation and layering techniques. We will explore how light and shadow work together to create depth, learn how to paint subtle veining and petal textures, and develop the soft transitions that bring hydrangeas to life on the page.
Throughout the class, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of value, form, and colour while building confidence in painting florals with greater realism and dimension.
This workshop is best suited for students with previous watercolour experience who are comfortable with basic floral techniques.
Come ready to slow down, enjoy the process, and capture the timeless beauty of the blue hydrangea.
