Hi! I’m Sarah: former art teacher, lifelong creative, and professional artist. Over the years, I’ve had many requests for watercolor classes, but life conspired and I never got it done.

Well now I’m ready! I tried to think about everything I wished I knew starting out, and I’ve added all that into the plan. These classes will take you from absolute beginner to confident watercolorist, and we’ll do it all in person, in very small groups (max of 6/class), from the cosy comfort of my firelit home in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.

In this class, we will delve into the classic beauty of hydrangeas and explore the unique challenges and opportunities that watercolour brings to capturing their vibrant, sunny essence. Under Sarah’s experienced guidance, you’ll learn her techniques for painting soft petal edges, layering translucent washes, and mixing colouurs to achieve the perfect blend of hues for lifelike flowers.
Sarah will not only demonstrate these skills step-by-step but also paint alongside you, offering personalized coaching to enhance your artistic expression. This workshop extends over a weekend, taking place on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, giving you ample time for detailed instruction and practice. With a total of 8 hours of instruction, you’ll have the opportunity to perfect your techniques and embrace the subtleties of watercolour.
You are encouraged to bring your own quality brushes and paints for this project, along with a 10×10″ sheet of professional-grade watercolour paper (a watercolour block this size or larger is recommended to avoid paper buckling). A complete supply list is linked below.
