My first Mother’s Day was marked by the planting of a very dark purple lilac, gifted to me by my late father. We moved away from that place and I always regretted the loss of that lilac, so 20 years later, my son bought me another lilac, which is now planted at the front of my current house. I love these bushes: their colors, their heavenly scent, and the memories they bring of my father, and now my son.
